New windows are a big investment, and the coast is tough on them: strong sun, salt air and big temperature swings between summer and winter. Check these things before you sign a quote.
PVC is the usual choice for insulation and value. Aluminium suits large sliding doors and slim modern frames, as long as it has a thermal break (RPT). Ask which profile system and series the quote is based on, for example a Kömmerling, Veka, Cortizo or Technal system, so you can compare quotes properly.
Double glazing with a low-emissivity (low-e) coating and a solar-control layer keeps homes cooler in summer and warmer in winter. For ground-floor doors and balustrades, ask for laminated safety glass. If you live near a busy road, ask about acoustic glass.
Salt air shortens the life of cheap finishes. For aluminium near the sea, ask for a Qualicoat Seaside or Qualimarine finish. For PVC, check that the hardware and screws are stainless or coated for coastal use.
Check with your ayuntamiento whether you need a minor works licence or a declaración responsable. In apartments, get your community of owners to agree before changing windows that alter the façade or before enclosing a terrace.
A good presupuesto lists every window with its size, opening type, profile, glass and colour, plus removal of old frames, fitting, sealing, making good and IVA. Ask how long the installation will take and what the warranty covers.
Keep the invoice, the product warranty and any energy performance documents. Ask the company how to adjust and look after the hardware, and whether it offers servicing.
We start from public business listings for window, door and glazing companies across the Costa Blanca. We remove duplicates, closed businesses and firms that don't do this kind of work, and check each company's website where it has one. Nobody pays to be included.
Both work well when they're specified properly. PVC generally insulates better for the money and doesn't corrode. Aluminium gives slimmer frames and larger sliding doors, but it should have a thermal break (rotura de puente térmico, RPT). Near the sea, ask for a marine-grade finish such as Qualimarine-certified lacquer or anodising.
Window replacement usually needs a minor works notice or licence from your town hall. Rules vary between towns, so ask the installer or the ayuntamiento. In an apartment block you'll normally need the community of owners to agree to anything that changes the façade, including terrace enclosures and glass curtains.
Get at least three written quotes (presupuestos). Make sure each one names the profile system, the glass specification, whether removing the old frames and making good are included, and the warranty. That way you're comparing like with like.
Many do, especially in Jávea, Moraira, Calpe, Altea, Orihuela Costa and Torrevieja. Listings marked 'English website' have English on their own site. If you're not sure, ask when you call.
